Goree island in Senegal June 24, 2020, Goree Island, Goree island, Senegal: Beneath this buoy is the wreckage of the Tacoma ship, which sank during the Battle of Dakar in September 1940 after being bombarded with cannons. Goree, is both an island in the North Atlantic Ocean located in the bay of Dakar and one of the 19 district municipalities of the capital of Senegal. It is a place symbol of the memory of the slave trade in Africa, officially recognized by the United Nations (UN) in 1978: Goree, ‘‘memory island‘‘ of this tragedy, was thus one of the very first places to be included on the World Heritage List managed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Credit Image: © Sadak Souici/Le Pictorium Agency via ZUMA Press)、クレジット:©Sadak Souici/Le Pictorium Agency via ZUMA Press/共同通信イメージズ ※Belgium and France Rights OUT 「ZUMA Press」
