04 June 2019, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Zurow: In a room of a former GDR bunker there are picture frames with stretched GDR plastic bags. A 77-year-old collector is exhibiting a total of 120 plastic bags in the concrete building. For decades, the trained typesetter has been collecting the bags with motifs for FDJ meetings, the GDR People‘s Police and advertising graphics for East German businesses, and from Whitsun he will be presenting part of his collection to visitors interested in the 140 square metre bunker. The bunker building from the 1960s, which was conceived in times of crisis as the operational headquarters of the Council of the District of Wismar, was auctioned off and extensively renovated in 2004 and now serves the initiative “Bunker to Art Spaces“ for exhibitions.
